Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers Samples Files Posted
Quick FYI: Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers sample files are now available on the book’s friends of ED website page. The downloads were just a tad late, so Tom and I have been fielding a few emails. Hope you enjoy ’em!

Hello David, I am reading the book and getting into the mobile content section. and was wondering how to publish on the net.
(I have made a small web site in 240×320px flash 1.1, standalone)
how would you do this ? make a sub domain on the website and add a page with Dreamweaver and insert the flash lite content ? or is there some other way that should be concidered.
Best regards and thanks for a interesting book

Lars,
Tom is a little more knowledgeable on the Flash Lite side of things, so I checked with him in regard to your question. Your suggestion pretty much nails it. Setting up a sub-domain would be especially nice, since you could conveniently steer mobile users to that area of your site, but in any case, all that’s required is that the device has Flash Player installed, then it’s business as usual.

Ok/Thanks,maybe you can pass this on to Tom as well ?
I have been looking on/in the chapter 12 the sample code and cant get the softkeys to work(I can follow my buttons (jump to a label/keyframe) but not return to may main “menue” with the soft key will not work (i copied the sample code but it wont work..) any basic mistakes i should check. If tom likes i can send him the file so he can take a look (if he has time ofcourse).
Again thanks

Lars,
Here are some of Tom’s thoughts:
Is the spelling correct in the
fscommnd2? Specifically the upper case letters inSetSoftKeys. Check theonKeyDownfunction and be sure theif(keyCode…)function is all upper case forSOFT1and that he used the number 1. Is the “Main” label on the timeline and is it between quotes? IsgotoAndStopactually spelled with the Cap A and the Cap S?Also, have you checked your own work against the sample file provided here?

We’ll stick with you until you get it.

Hi David,
Thanks, I had copied the code from chapter 12(and then edited it to suit my needs) I tried to change the code according to your last entery (still no luck).
The animation in general works as intended but not the navigation back to my “main” label (using SOFT1) and the left and right navigation keys will not work (up and down does..) either but if i just could get the soft 1 & 2 to work i would be pleased (left and right would be bonus so to speak)
no script errors reported either. - So what should i do any suggestions?
Thanks
-Lars

Lars,
Have you tried the actual book sample file? I realize you edited your own version to suit your needs, but let’s determine if the FLA provided at the friends of ED website works on your device. If nothing else, that may help us troubleshoot. For example, if the official sample file also fails on your device — if this a cell phone? if so, what model? — we’ll know that Tom or I need to correct what the book states. If not, we’ll be able to compare the actual book code with the actual code in your own FLA.

Hi David,
The book sample from ed’s works on the 6300 (in device central), so that is fine.
(My code is very similar as it was copied from the Ed sample and then rearranged to map against my animation “labels” and buttons). I have reviewed it several times but cant see where it goes wrong (I am using device cental and the Nokia 6300 again to make sure it is no device difference causing this).
Again thanks for your time

General follow up.
Lars and I were able to solve his issue via email. The solution was to make sure his Publish Settings were configured for ActionScript 2.0 in the “ActionScript version” area, while Flash Lite 2.0 or 2.1 were selected in the “Version” area. This is because the ActionScript in question uses post colon suffixes (
:Object,:Number, etc.), and his “ActionScript version” area was configured for ActionScript 1.0, which doesn’t support those.September 22nd, 2007 at 9:42 pm
Picked up the book earlier tonight and I am unable to access the website in order to d/l the project files…not happy

Mike,
Sorry to hear that! I’m looking at the friends of ED website right now, and the download page for Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers is working just fine for me. Maybe you experienced a temporary hang-up on their site?
Give it a shot again, or try, as an alternate location, the download page on FoundationFlashCS3.com.
