Now Shipping:  Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers

Flash General

On Thursday, July 12, 2007, a hefty box arrived at my doorstop.  Inside?  My author’s copies of Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers, written by Tom Green and me.  What a way to perk up the afternoon!  :)

Right away, I flipped to the XML chapter to show Meridian the picture of herself (she’s in one of the XML sample files, which includes a number of JPGs).  For a brief moment, she seemed confused — but then she laughed.  Good stuff!  It was a terrific response to a project that took so much of my time.  This kid gives me all the perspective I need in life.  ;)

David - I’m that much smarter for knowing you! Nice job, and congratulations on being the first author I’ve ever known.

    Cheers!

  2. Tom Schultz Says:

David - you are the man…

Tell me you used “school” or “schooooool” in the book.

    Cheers!

    Tom

    David……..

Quite proud of you…….darned if it isn’t against Harry Potter for sales! Diverting Emus Computers Are For (Say it in your best Yoda Voice)

  4. Noah DiCenso Says:

Congratulations on completing the book. My copy arrived on July 16th. I look forward to reading it. I expect great things, so don’t let me down. HAHA… I am sure it will be great.

    David…..

Congratulations on the book! I look forward to reading it in depth (should arrive soon) and learning more from you. I can’t tell you how many times your posts on the Adobe Actionscript Forums have saved me over the last few years. I look forward to the opprotunity to further pick that brain of yours.

Scott, Tom, Chad, Noah, and Mike,

Thanks guys! :-D The book was a ton of fun to write (and … well, just a ton of work, all around!). I hope it gives folks the good “foundation” implied by the title. We’ll have a companion site up soon for the sample files, and the friends of ED website will also have samples.

    Hey David!

Though I have some trouble with ordering the book from Amazon (In Holland we barely use credit cards and never checks) and shipping time of 9 to 22 days I’m sure I’ll find a way to get hold of the book.
Congratulations on completing it, for one. I very much look forward to reading it.

Ps. Ooow I have one question about the Adobe Fora. I’m sorry it’s completely off topic, but I was wondering what newsreader you guys use, for Entourage on the mac does not provide me with enough overview.. I have to keep myself busy untill the book arrives ;)

  8. Tiemen Says:

    Woohoo! I have it ordered!
    Delivery estimate: August 7, 2007 - August 21, 2007 :P

But on the sunny side: the shipping costs are averaged by the euro-dollar rate.

  9. David Stiller Says:

    Tiemen,

Thanks for the purchase! Hope it doesn’t take so very long to arrive to the Netherlands.

For what it’s worth, I use Outlook Express for NNTP feeds, such as the Adobe forums, but I know Thunderbird is another popular choice.

  10. Tiemen Says:

Look what I got in the mail.. Fabulous! It’s already here! I’ll start reading it right away.
