Logging in
Voyager on the Web

Summary

Voyager on the Web is an ambitious project to convert the entire feature set of an existing desktop app, Voyager, to the platform of a Rich Internet Application (RIA).  Seattle Avionics’ Voyager is a successful flight planning package that handles FAA paperwork requirements electronically.  Voyager currently alerts a pilot to weather conditions, weight and balance issues, Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), and more.  The web incarnation makes these features available to the pilot on any Internet connected computer.

Once logged in, the pilot finds everything familiar about Voyager at his fingertips, including the distinctive look of the user interface.  The RIA achieves this by connecting to a series of web services, each of which mirrors a feature normally invoked by a toolbar button or menu selection.  Given the high number of user interface elements, this is a monumental task.
