Ohhhh ... Get me
to the library on time
Most newlywed couples, after exchanging vows, rush out of the church to their honeymoon site.
Although Dawn and David Stiller were on their way to their honeymoon at a 150-year-old cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains, they had to make one quick stopover.
Soon after the July 18 ceremony at the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach, and the reception at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the couple dropped by Chesapeake Central Library to check out a few books to take with them to their rustic honeymoon cabin in the mountains.
And they never even changed into casual clothes.
The Stillers showed up at the library, used the book catalog computer, found their books and waited in line to check out their materials all while wearing their wedding finery.
He was handsome in his classic tux, and she was radiant in her white, lacy wedding dress and long train.
“They came in just like any other person on a quiet Saturday afternoon,” said reference librarian Barbara White. “After they found their books, they patiently waited in line with everyone else, both still wearing their wedding outfits. We thought they were lost on their way to a prom. Finally I couldn’t stand it and I told them, ‘you both look terrific.’ After they they told me what had happened.”
White said the Stillers told her they are both avid readers and simply wanted a few books to read at their cabin, which has no television or radio.
Although the library cannot disclose exactly what titles its patrons check out, the photo of the two, taken at the Central Library, showed Dawn Stiller holding a copy of “Mirrors of the Soul.” Apparently they checked out several books of poetry/philosophy.
“I guess they were soothing types of books, the kinds of things they could read to one another,” White speculated. “They’re a marvelous couple. After they dropped in after their wedding, we’ve gotten to know them well. Dawn has even dropped by with cookies for the staff.”
